April 3, 2018
The Art Alliance of Monmouth county is pleased to announce that Joanne Sheers Seidenstein has juried their Thirty First Annual Juried Exhibition. Members of this arts co-op, and non-members, submitted works in all media forms. 50 pieces by 50 artists have been chosen.
Seidenstein comes with impressive credentials. She presently holds the post of Andrew W. Mellon Fellow, Department of Drawings and Prints, at the MMA. Prior to this she was with The Frick Collection, New York, where she began her career as a Curatorial and Research Assistant, and rose to Anne L. Poulet Curatorial Fellow. During her time at The Frick, she also held the Kaplan-Fisch Fellowship in the Connoisseurship of European Paintings, at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.
In 2017 Seidenstein organized the Frick exhibition Divine Encounter: Rembrandt’s Abraham and the Angels, which highlighted a very rarely seen, privately held, work of Rembrandt. It is his Abraham Entertaining the Angels, painted in oil on panel, in 1646. Seidenstein also organized the exhibition Landscape Drawings in The Frick Collection, in 2015. Scholarly publications accompanied both exhibits.
Other publications which Seidenstein has contributed to include the exhibition catalogs Turner’s Modern and Ancient Ports: Passages through Time (2017), Rembrandt and His School: Masterworks from the Frick and Lugt Collections (2011), and The Spanish Manner: Drawings from Ribera to Goya (2010).
Seidenstein received her PhD from New York University's Institute of Fine Arts, for her dissertation on Rembrandt's treatments of themes from classical antiquity. She received her MA and BA in art history, the former from The Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, and the latter from Vassar College.
An Artists’ Reception will be held Saturday, April 7, from 6-8 PM. Refreshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend. The exhibition is on view April 6 to 28, Tuesday – Saturday, 12-4 PM. Free of charge. Art Alliance of Monmouth County, 33 Monmouth Street, Red Bank, NJ.
