CELTIC THUNDER SINGER EMMET CAHILL IN CONCERT IN MIDDLETOWN ON AUGUST 9
July 14, 2017
Emmet Cahill, award-winning Irish tenor and a principal vocalist with the well-renowned Irish music show Celtic Thunder, will perform at the Middletown Arts Center in Middletown on Wednesday, August 9 at 7:30 p.m.
Cahill’s appearance in Middletown is part of a nationwide tour to promote his debut orchestral album, “Emmet Cahill’s Ireland” on the Sony Music USA label. The album went to #1 on the Amazon, iTunes and Billboard World Music charts.
“Emmet Cahill’s Ireland” offers the best of the traditional Irish repertoire, with Cahill accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. Song selections include well-known standards like “Danny Boy” and “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling” as well as less-familiar ballads such as “Oft In The Stilly Night” and “My Cavan Girl.” The songs on the album were arranged by composer and Celtic Thunder Music Director David Munro. The album was co-produced by Munro and Seamus Brett.
The 26-year-old from Mullingar, County Westmeath is passionate about sharing songs from his homeland to a new generation of music lovers. “I am very proud to be Irish,” says Cahill. “I want people to feel a real connection to the songs, as well as the people and the stories that they represent. There has always been a special relationship between the Irish and American people and I want to further enrich that friendship.”
2017 is shaping up to be a very good year for Cahill. In addition to releasing his album, Cahill was invited to open the New York City St. Patrick’s Day parade with a performance of “Danny Boy” and made his orchestral debut with Space Coast Symphony Orchestra in Florida. In October Cahill will embark on his first solo tour across Canada, playing in seven cities. Looking ahead to March 2018, Cahill is slated to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
In addition to performing selections from his album, Cahill will also sing Broadway favorites, movie hits and folk classics plus an occasional operatic aria that will showcase his classical vocal training received at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin.
General admission tickets for Emmet Cahill’s concert are $30 and may be purchased online at http://www.emmetcahill.com/tour-dates/ or at the door. Middletown Arts Center is located at 36 Church Street in Middletown.
