It’s been 45 years since MaryLouise van der Wilden—a former accessories and cosmetics buyer at Bergdorf Goodman and Henri Bendel in NYC—opened her fashion and home accessories boutique, Le Papillon.
The location (originally Fair Haven, now Rumson) and styles may have changed over the years, but one thing has not: outstanding customer service. “We’ll do whatever it takes to help our customers, whether it’s picking out a gift, or finding the perfect outfit for an event, or helping accessorize an outfit they already have,” says MaryLouise. “We’ve even taken outfits to our customers’ homes to try on!”
Le Papillon is known for its wide selection of color-splashed Lilly Pulitzer clothing and accessories (including sizes for girls and babies), but MaryLouise has also curated an extensive and unique collection of other special and often undiscovered brands of fashions, footwear, jewelry, bags, and belts. The store features exceptional home accessories, as well, including paintings, lamps, hand-painted serving pieces from Italy, brass door knockers, and other decorative accents, which the store will often lend on approval overnight. “It’s amazing how a new pillow, throw or lamp can change the look of a room, just like a new necklace can change the look of an outfit,” she says. “We try hard to select distinctive pieces from small, specialty manufacturers that look expensive and luxurious but are affordable and offer good value.”
MaryLouise is grateful to her outstanding staff and the multiple generations of loyal customers who have made Le Papillon a shopping destination for more than four decades...and counting!
